Baltimore, Maryland - September 11, 2006 - Mayo A. Shattuck, chairman, president and CEO of Constellation Energy Group has teamed up with golfing great Arnold Palmer to raise money for numerous charities based in Maryland.This collaboration is the result of the Constellation Energy Classic, a week long (9/11 - 9/17/2006) golf tournament. All proceeds generated by the tournament will benefit the Baltimore Classic Fund, a nonprofit organization which has distributed more than $1.5 million to Maryland-based nonprofit organizations since the tournament's inaugural year in 2003. Organizations benefiting this year include: Special Olympics of Maryland, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Living Classrooms Foundation, The First Tee of Baltimore, Union Memorial Sports Medicine, and the Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins.
Because eligibility for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship is determined by the Top 30 golfers on the money list, The Classic is a key tournament with a $1,700,000 purse, $225,000 of which is awarded to the winner. In addition to Palmer, the tournament features an accomplished field of 23 of the top 30 members of the Champions Tour. Constellation Energy owes its recent successes to Mayo A. Shattuck's leadership.
